From Toronto to the Himalayas: The Story Behind Kuttons
In a world where fashion moves faster than ever, we found ourselves searching for something slower, Something more meaningful. Something that felt connected to nature, craftsmanship, and the simple joy of wearing clothing that feels good on your skin.
That search eventually became Kuttons.
But Kuttons didn't begin in a factory or a fashion studio. It began thousands of miles away, in Toronto, Canada.
A Dream Rooted in Simplicity
Although we had built our lives in Canada, our roots have always remained in the mountains of Uttarakhand, India. We grew up surrounded by nature. The Himalayas were never just a landscape to us-they were part of who we are. The calmness of the mountains, the simplicity of life, and the deep connection to natural living shaped the way we saw the world from an early age.
Years later, while living in Toronto, we found ourselves increasingly drawn back to those values. We noticed how difficult it had become to find clothing that felt truly natural. Everywhere we looked, fashion seemed to be moving in the opposite direction-more synthetic fabrics, more mass production, and more trends designed to be replaced within months.
We wanted something different. We wanted clothing that felt breathable, comfortable, timeless, and connected to nature. That's when the idea for Kuttons first began.

The First Chapter: Working With Skilled Artisans
When we started Kuttons, we didn't have our own studio.
Instead, we worked closely with talented artisans and small production partners across India. We would create our designs and collaborate with them to bring our ideas to life.
It was an exciting beginning.
We learned a tremendous amount about fabrics, construction, and what women truly wanted from their clothing. We built relationships with skilled craftspeople and started creating pieces that reflected our vision of comfort and simplicity.
But as the brand grew, we began noticing challenges. Because production was happening outside our direct control, maintaining consistent quality became difficult. Small details mattered to us-how a garment draped, how the stitching felt, how the fabric was finished-but we couldn't always oversee every step of the process.
The more we learned, the more we realized something important:
If we wanted to create the kind of clothing we truly believed in, we needed to do more than design it. We needed to create it ourselves, with complete involvement in every step of the process and every detail that mattered.

The Decision That Changed Everything
That's when we made one of the biggest decisions of our lives.
Instead of continuing from Canada and relying on external production partners, we decided to build our own studio in India. It wasn't an easy choice. Our family was in Canada, Our life was in Canada.
But building something meaningful often requires difficult decisions. So Ashish returned to India to begin the next chapter of Kuttons.
The goal wasn't simply to manufacture clothing. The goal was to create a space where quality, craftsmanship, and intention could exist without compromise. A place where every garment could be made exactly the way we envisioned.

Returning to the Himalayas
There was only one place that felt right.
Dehradun.
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, Dehradun is more than just our production base-it's home. It's where our roots are. It's where the values behind Kuttons were born.
Surrounded by forests, mountains, fresh air, and nature, it felt like the perfect place to create clothing inspired by simplicity and natural living.
Today, our studio operates from this beautiful region of Uttarakhand, where we oversee every stage of production ourselves. Every design, Every stitch, Every detail.
Being close to the process allows us to maintain the standards we always dreamed of achieving.

Why Linen Became Our Fabric of Choice
As we built Kuttons, one thing became clear.
If we wanted to create clothing that reflected our philosophy, we needed to start with the right fabric. That fabric was linen.
Linen is one of the most natural, breathable, and durable fabrics in the world. It feels light on the skin, allows your body to breathe, becomes softer with time, And unlike fast-fashion fabrics, it is designed to last.
For women living busy lives across the USA, Canada, Australia, and Europe, linen offers something increasingly rare: comfort without compromise.
That's why we carefully source premium European linen and natural fabrics that meet our standards for quality, durability, and sustainability.
Because we believe clothing should feel as good as it looks.

Building Clothing With Intention
At Kuttons, we don't believe in mass production.
We don't chase seasonal trends, And we don't create clothing designed to be worn for a few months and forgotten. Instead, we focus on creating pieces that become part of your life. Every garment is made thoughtfully and intentionally.
From selecting fabrics to cutting, stitching, finishing, and quality checking, our team handles each piece with care. We choose small-batch production because it allows us to focus on quality rather than quantity.
It allows us to slow down, And we believe fashion should slow down too.

More Than a Brand
Kuttons has always been about more than clothing. It's about returning to what matters.
Natural fabrics, Thoughtful craftsmanship, Timeless design, Connection to nature. And creating products that women genuinely enjoy wearing every day.
When you wear a Kuttons piece, you're not just wearing a dress. You're wearing a story that began in Toronto, returned to the Himalayas, and continues to be shaped every day by a commitment to quality, authenticity, and purpose.
Our Journey Is Just Beginning
Looking back, the journey from Canada to the foothills of the Himalayas wasn't easy.
It required sacrifice, Patience, And a willingness to start again. But every challenge reinforced why we started Kuttons in the first place.
To create clothing that feels natural, To create clothing that lasts. And to build something meaningful.
We're grateful to everyone who has become part of this journey.
Whether you've purchased your first linen dress or have been with us from the beginning, thank you for supporting a slower, more thoughtful way of creating fashion.
This is only the beginning.
With gratitude,
Poonam & Ashish Kothari
