About Us — Founder Story

A Journey Rooted in Craft, Built Across Continents

Kuttons began in Toronto with a simple belief: that beautiful things should be made slowly, thoughtfully, and with respect for the people who create them. What started as a small collection of handwoven scarves, stoles, cushion covers, and artisanal textiles soon grew into a heartfelt venture that connected our Canadian home with the skilled hands and rich traditions of India.

Our early customers — especially from the United States — weren’t just buying products. They were responding to authenticity, purity of materials, and the stories behind the craft. And with that encouragement, our vision expanded.

  • We wanted to build a brand that didn’t compromise.
  • A brand that stood for quality, natural fabrics, and honest craftsmanship.
  • A brand where every piece was personal.

Our roots in Toronto & Dehradun

A Transformative Move: From Toronto to the Himalayas

In 2024, I made a decision that would reshape both my life and the future of Kuttons. I moved from Toronto back to India — leaving my wife and daughters temporarily behind so I could fully dedicate myself to building our own design and production studio from the ground up.

My wife holds everything together in Toronto — managing our home, our daughters, and our responsibilities — so that I can focus entirely on this mission in Dehradun, India. Her support is the quiet strength behind Kuttons.

In the Himalayan foothills, we built a 2100 sq-ft studio: a space where ideas, craftsmanship, and fabric come together every day. We brought together a master tailor with nearly 20 years of experience, a skilled team of tailors and artisans, a fashion designer, and young local talent in marketing. With this team, Kuttons began evolving from a small accessories store into a full-scale slow fashion brand.

Our Evolution: From Accessories to Natural-Fabric Women’s Wear

While our roots lie in handwoven scarves, artisanal cushion covers, Himalayan woollens, and pure pashmina cashmere — pieces that still remain a cherished part of our identity — our primary focus has shifted to something bigger and more meaningful:

Crafting premium women’s wear using natural, breathable, sustainable fabrics.

Today, our studio works extensively with fine 100% pure European linen, along with long-staple luxury cotton (coming soon) and organic Kala cotton. Every garment is made-to-order — one piece at a time — ensuring quality, consistency, and zero waste.

  • Nothing is outsourced.
  • Nothing is mass-produced.
  • Everything is crafted under our roof.

Our customers across the USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia want clothing that feels personal, luxurious, breathable, and ethically made — and our model allows us to offer exactly that.

Our Linen: Certified, Authentic & Truly European

At the heart of our new direction is a fabric we are deeply proud of — 100% authentic European Flax® linen. The fibers used in our linen come directly from certified farms across Europe, grown naturally in the rich climates of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where the world’s finest flax has been cultivated for generations.

Our linen is European Flax® Certified — a guarantee of traceability, sustainability, and purity. It meets the highest standards of European agriculture with no GMO seeds, no irrigation beyond natural rainfall, and a farming tradition that respects both the soil and the environment.

Every batch of fabric we use is also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certified, ensuring that it is free from harmful chemicals and safe for your skin and for the planet.

This combination of purity, certification, and European legacy forms the foundation of our design philosophy — luxury that breathes, ages beautifully, and carries a conscience.

A Glimpse of Our Forthcoming European Linen Collection

We are currently preparing our signature European Linen Women’s Wear Collection, designed and created in our Dehradun studio and launching soon.

This collection includes:

  • Elegant Linen Dresses with clean lines, effortless silhouettes, and softly structured drape

  • Minimalist Linen Tops inspired by contemporary European styling

  • Smart Linen Pants & Trousers that combine comfort with tailored refinement

  • Lightweight Jackets, Shackets & Short Coats crafted from fine European linen for all-season layering

Each piece reflects our design philosophy — understated luxury, natural fabrics, meticulous construction, and a timeless, global aesthetic.

These are garments made for women who value comfort, longevity, and quiet sophistication.

Honoring Our Heritage Collections

Even as we grow into a full-scale clothing brand, we remain deeply connected to our origins.

Our heritage collection continues to offer:

  • handwoven scarves and stoles

  • Himalayan woollens

  • pure pashmina cashmere shawls

  • winter accessories like gloves, hats, and sweaters

  • artisanal cushion covers and home textiles

These pieces represent where we started — and they continue to support the artisans who have been part of our journey from the beginning.

While our new collections form nearly 80% of our future direction, these original products will always remain part of the Kuttons story.

Why We Built Our Own Studio

In an industry dominated by outsourcing, we took the harder path: we built our own production unit. This allows us to maintain absolute control over the fit, fabric, stitching, and finishing — and ensure every piece meets our uncompromising standards.

Our studio provides stable, meaningful work to local tailors and artisans, and allows us to operate with honesty, transparency, and pride in every garment we ship.

Craftsmanship is not just a process here — it is a value system.

Rooted in India. Shaped by a Global Perspective.

Kuttons exists between two worlds.

India is where we design, create, stitch, finish, and bring ideas to life.
Canada is where our family resides and where Kuttons first took shape.
The USA remains our largest and most loyal customer base — a market that deeply values authenticity and natural fabrics.

This cross-cultural identity defines who we are: global in spirit, grounded in craft.

The Road Ahead

We are preparing to expand our collections with elevated linen wardrobes, fine cotton ensembles, organic cotton essentials, and small-batch winterwear. Our long-term vision is to build one of the most trusted slow-fashion clothing brands — known for purity of materials, precision of fit, and meaningful design.

We want our garments to become part of a woman’s personal story — pieces she reaches for year after year.

Kuttons is not just a brand for us. It is a family journey, a commitment to doing things carefully, and a belief that honesty in craft still matters.

Thank you for being part of our story.
We’re building this with heart, purpose, and intention — and this is only the beginning.
